We hosted a question during the QuizNight XL, part of the Dutch Technology Week. We demonstrated the strength of reinforced ice compared to plain ice live on stage. Professor Maarten Steinbuch tried to break the ice-samples, in front of 1250 participants.
Results were exactly how we expected. Plain ice broke easily with a wooden hammer. A sample with wooden fibers held it almost with a steel hammer. And for breaking the ice reinforced with paper fibers he even had to smash it twice. Special thanks to Teun and Jordy of last year’s ice project for helping us since we (Roel and Thijs) were in Finland during this night.
